How to manage failure — inspired by Episode 41 of the Know What I’m Saying Podcast.
What is failure?
Failure is a situation or occurrence in which something does not work as it should.
Failure, in other words, is when something doesn’t happen as you wished.
Perhaps you fail a big exam, or you mess up getting a job promotion, or you forget your friends birthday. All of these events didn’t go the way you hoped that they would, and to you, that’s a failure.
Failure is something personal and subjective; what may be considered a massive failure to you may be considered a massive win to somebody else.
Failure is often something that links to self criticism, too; many people focus on their own failures more than any other type of failure, and this can lead to toxic and harmful self criticism — people often beat themselves up over the idea of failing.
