What is loneliness?

Loneliness is a deep sadness due to a lack of social interaction and relationships.

Every human being has a need for social connection. We all desire loving friends, a supportive family and healthy relationships — every individual wants this in different capacities, but the fact that we all share a desire for connection stands.

Loneliness arises when this innate human need for social connection isn’t met.

Loneliness is something pretty debilitating — it can be awful to feel that you have nobody close to you who cares and appreciates you.

There’s a few key ways, however, that you can work to combat loneliness and therefore develop strong connections, both of which increase happiness!

5 ways to combat loneliness

  1. Disconnect.
  2. Do small favours.
  3. Work together.
  4. Reach out.
  5. Say hi.
