When you study, what does your environment look like?

Are you surrounded by colourful highlighters, pastel post it notes and your phone? Or are you focused, using flashcards and practice exam papers?

The main aim of studying is to get a good grade on your exam; to do that, you must understand the content and then be able to recall it effectively. There’s some techniques that help you understand and then recall, while there’s others that simply waste your time.

There’s 8 crucial study mistakes that you must avoid at all costs if you ever want to study efficiently and get the best grades possible! They are;

  • Highlighting
  • Underlining
  • Summarising
  • Rereading
  • Rewatching or re-listening
  • All-nighters
  • No plan
  • No breaks

1. Highlighting

Highlighting is fun, right?

Using aesthetic colours and making your notes look ‘pretty’ is pleasing for the mind, but it’s not gonna get you the grades you want. Although it’s fun, it’s entirely ineffective as a study technique.
