Aristotle.

The eminent Greek Philosopher Aristotle (384–322 BC) is thought to have made some of the greatest contributions to world thought in all of human history. Aristotle on friendships πŸ«‚

Aristotle wrote about the nature of our relationships, particularly that there are three types and levels of friendships.

  • Friendships based on utility.
  • Friendships based on pleasure.
  • Friendships based on love.

Friendships based on utility

The first and lowest form of friendship is based on utility.

Think about the relationships you have with people with whom you work, or with whom you do business.

These relationships tend to be transactional in nature. They tend to be based on deals and agreements and rarely drift into sensitive topics like politics, love, or religion.

Friendships based on pleasure.
