Just Don’t Make Things Worse
Today’s Daily Stoic Meditation outlines how emotional outbreaks and arguments have the unneeded power to make a situation worse!
Lashing out, shouting and expelling your anger can simply make it worse.
“How much more harmful are the consequences of anger and grief than the circumstances that aroused them in us!”
— MARCUS AURELIUS, MEDITATIONS, 11.18.8
Anger
Anger is a powerful emotion, one that can control many of our actions!
Anger is especially present in a negative situation, when something has gone wrong.
Your first inclination in a bad situation may be to let that anger out.
However, whatever you do, don’t act solely on this emotion, for it makes the situation worse!
Don’t Make Things Worse
Whatever you do, don’t make the situation worse.
Many situations are objectively bad, and the last thing needed is for you to make them worse.
How?
How exactly do people make situations worse?
There’s a few key ways;
- Lashing out
- Arguing
- Shouting
- Crying
There’s a common factor present; letting your emotions take over.
You can make a situation worse by letting your emotions cloud your viewpoint.
Never let your emotions rule over your actions.
Do not lash out, shout or argue, for this can make a situation way worse.
It’s Never As Bad As You Think
Often, you’ll find that the situation is rarely as bad as you think.
Objectively, the situation is never so tragic or fatal.
The caveat here though is that you must look objectively, without attaching any emotions, preconceived notions or perspectives.
It only becomes fatal when you attach your emotions and perspectives onto it!
Situations become bad when you start adding your personal thoughts and emotions to it.
You can turn a mildly bad situation into full blown chaos!
Do not be that person.
Look objectively, see what is really there.
