No Blame, Just Focus

Focusing on the Daily Stoic Meditation for August 4 — No Blame, Just Focus… as outlined by Ryan Holiday in the bestseller 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance and the Art Of Living.

“You must stop blaming God, and not blame any person. You must completely control your desire and shift your avoidance to what lies within your reasoned choice. You must no longer feel anger, resentment, envy, or regret.”

— EPICTETUS, DISCOURSES, 3.22.13

On Blame

Everyone shifts the blame…

Everyone has a tendency to shift the blame when something goes wrong.

You mess up an exam? You blame the teacher, or your friends for distracting you.

You mess up a big work presentation? You blame your boss for not helping you prepare better.

When was the last time you shifted the blame?

You can’t shift the blame.

If you ever want to grow, learn and develop, you have to stop shifting the blame for your actions. When you mess up, or something goes wrong in your life, stop shifting the blame.

Take responsibility for your role in the event — perhaps you’re the reason something didn’t go to…
