What is oxytocin?
Oxytocin is a hormone released by the pituitary gland that causes increased positive feelings and emotions.
During positive situations or social encounters, your brain releases oxytocin, and this enables you to feel happier, lighter and more joyful.
Loneliness
Loneliness arises when oxytocin is lacking.
When you’re not surrounded by positive people, engaging in social interactions or feeling loved, the dark feeling of loneliness can generate.
This sense of loneliness degrades our quality of life, happiness and our health.
How can you increase oxytocin?
There’s 3 major ways to increase oxytocin and therefore combat loneliness;
- Reach out to others.
- Help others.
- Spend time with animals.
Reach out to others.
Any form of positive social interaction releases oxytocin into the brain and body.
Go to a bar, or a coffee shop, or a concert and just talk to people. Start a conversation; be brave and confident.
Just say hi and interact.
