Stoic Joy

Focusing on the Daily Stoic Meditation for July 30 — Stoic Joy, as outlined by Ryan Holiday in the bestseller 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance and the Art Of Living.

“Trust me, real joy is a serious thing. Do you think someone can, in the charming expression, blithely dismiss death with an easy disposition? Or swing open the door to poverty, keep pleasures in check, or meditate on the endurance of suffering? The one who is comfortable with turning these thoughts over is truly full of joy, but hardly cheerful. It’s exactly such a joy that I would wish for you to possess, for it will never run dry once you’ve laid claim to its source.”

— SENECA, MORAL LETTERS, 23.4

appreciating the beauty in nature.

You can attain real joy.

Joy, happiness and euphoria — these are things that you can attain and enable to flow in your life.

Joy isn’t something you have to wait for; not until you reach a goal, or you lose a certain amount of weight, or you get a big promotion. You don’t have to wait for joy, as you can achieve it now.

Even if you’re suffering, and you’re not dealing with the best conditions at the minute, you can attain real joy.

The Stoics on joy.
