The real competition

An article that focuses on who your real competition is; it’s not who you think.

Largely inspired by Ross Harkness’ Self Mastery Newsletter.

Many people would break competition down into three major stages.

The first stage of competition is when you view everyone as competition.

In this stage, absolutely everyone to exist is your competition — your friends, your partner, random guys on social media etc.

Naturally, this stage is immensely detrimental to your mental health and the wellbeing of those around you.

Not everyone is your competition, as not everyone is playing the same game as you. The most successful basketball player of all time isn’t your competition when you’re learning web design.

When you compete with everyone, you compete with no-one.

When you compete with everyone, you won’t move forward. You’ll spend way too much time comparing yourself to absolutely everyone, and getting frustrated when you see that there’s a lot of people ahead of you, even if it’s in different fields and areas.

The first stage of competition, viewing everyone as competition, doesn’t work.

How about the second stage?
